Cairns Taipans vs. Sydney Kings Prediction, Tips & Odds – Mar. 13, 2022
Two playoff hopefuls, Cairns and Sydney, meet this Sunday as a part of a busy NBL schedule with three interesting games to end the week. After a poor start and a season plagued with injuries the Taipans can´t seem to get going and currently sit at 9th place right above bottom-placed New Zealand. Sydney on the other hand managed to find some chemistry after a bad start currently being only one position outside the top 4 and the playoff zone.
After a major team overhaul and a coaching change, the Taipans were hoping for a much better season. Even though they are not performing at a level that was expected from them, their ardent and determined fan base keeps giving them very strong support. They always enjoy the support of a packed Cairns Convention Centre which makes them an extremely difficult team to beat at home. The difference between their home and away record clearly proves it as they only managed to win one out of seven games outside their arena.
At home, they are much better with a 3-5 record. Even when they lose they never go down without a fight as couple of times this season they showed great heart and managed to keep up with some of the title favourites with a severely shorthanded roster. Their season was affected early on when their marquee player and superstar Scott Machado suffered an injury setback which had him out for over a month missing numerous key games.

Recently he returned and lifted his team´s offense but with him, on the floor, they haven´t been able to start winning consistently. For today´s game they will have their legend and captain Nathan Jawai return from injury and play his 200th NBL game but shooter Mirko Djeric will remain sidelined. One of their starters who missed their last game and a defeat to Tasmania two days ago, Tahjere McCall, will be a game-time decision.
In difference to the Taipans, the Kings managed to shake off their poor start and started building momentum. At the moment they are the team to beat in the league as they are in a 6-game winning streak which got them very close to the playoff zone and 4th place. Around a week ago they hosted Cairns and won routinely 98:88 but this time a much tougher challenge awaits them away from home.

Just like Cairns they also heavily depend on home-court advantage. Outside their Qudos Bank Arena, they don´t win very often and mostly rely on their opponents having a bad day in order to win. At home, they are a completely different team and almost impossible to beat but the Taipans kept the scoreline respectable last Sunday and didn´t allow a blowout loss. A week later they will have a much better chance; not only because of home advantage but also because the Kings will be without one of their primary scorers Xavier Cooks.
Cairns Taipans vs. Sydney Kings Prediction
All winning streaks come to an end. Today the Taipans have a very good opportunity of upsetting the undermanned Kings in front of their fierce crowd which is a crucial factor in their home games. Sydney will have to earn their every point against Cairns´s defensive shackles in Queensland so we suggest betting on the home team to cover the spread.
Pick: Handicap(incl. overtime): Cairns Taipans (+4.5)
