This year´s edition of the Governors´ Cup was torn apart by Covid but that didn´t prevent Ginebra to win the title. After some very disappointing performances during the regular season, they lifted their game to a completely different level when the playoffs began.

TNT, NLEX and Meralco all went down in the playoffs against Ginebra and the new MVP Scottie Thompson who powered his team in the opening round against Blackwater with an all-around performance. He also got solid help from Stanley Pringle who finally returned after missing the entire Governors´ Cup. With him back in the roster and with Japeth Aguilar and Christian Standhardinger patrolling the paint, the Ginebra Kings now look really formidable so it was quite surprising to see them struggle against Blackwater couple of days ago.

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Team News

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters stole the win in their opener against the FiberXers with a late rally but in the second round against Batang Pier they ran out of gas in the second half. They had plenty of time to rest for their third game against the reigning champions and will be looking for an upset which seems like a long shot at the moment.

The Ginebra Kings are trying to avoid the poor start they had in the Governors´ Cup and the Painters should be just another one of their victims. Batang Pier exposed all of Rain or Shine´s weaknesses outrebounding them 54-46 which will be a huge problem against one of the tallest frontcourts in the league.
