ABA League 2026/27 season preview with Dubai Basketball as defending champions

Dubai Basketball will defend the title they won in June 2026. The season starts on Friday, September 25, and for the first time it ends at a Final Four instead of a best-of-five final.

That single change matters more than any transfer this summer. I explain why below, and I flag the markets I watch before round one.

ABA League 2026/27 Winner Odds

ABA League 2026/27 season preview with Dubai Basketball as defending champions
Dubai Basketball won their first ABA title in June 2026 and open the new season as holders.

No bookmaker has published a 2026/27 outright market yet. An outright bet is a single wager on the season winner, placed now and settled in May 2027.

Odds checked on 9 September 2026. Prices move on every injury update, so confirm the board before you bet.

For historical context only, here is where the market sat last season. MaxBet priced the 2025/26 title on May 5, 2026, as follows: Dubai 2.75, Partizan 2.90, Crvena zvezda 3.15, Budućnost 16.00, Cedevita Olimpija 21.00. Those prices are settled and closed. Use them as a reference point, not a guide for this season.

The Format Change That Changes the Betting

The league grew from 18 to 20 clubs. They are split into two groups of ten, and each group plays 18 rounds home and away. So this format is not similar to the EuroLeague format - Betting tips euroleague winner odds 2026 27.

The top four from each group enter a Top 8 stage of eight more rounds, carrying their points forward. The other twelve clubs play a twelve-round Play-Out. Six clubs go straight to the quarterfinals. Seeds seven and eight from the Top 8 meet the two best Play-Out sides in a play-in, which is a short knockout round for the last places.

Quarterfinals are best of three. Then the title is decided at a Final Four on May 28 and May 30, 2027. Here is why that reprices the favorite. A best-of-five final lets the stronger side absorb one bad night. A Final Four does not. One poor semifinal ends the season.

Variance rose for every top club this summer, and the outright price should reflect that. If a bookmaker - Betting sites prices the favorite as if the old format still applies, that is the first place I look.

Dubai Basketball Defend Under a New Coach

Dubai won their first title in only their second season. They beat Partizan 3 to 1 in the final, closing it out 83 to 81 in Belgrade on June 12, 2026. Mfiondu Kabengele took Finals MVP. They also finished top of the regular season, level with Partizan and ahead on the tiebreaker.

The bench has turned over twice in six months. Jurica Golemac left in April 2026. Aleksander Sekulič replaced him and won the title, then moved to Barcelona. Xavi Pascual arrives from Barcelona for this season. A defending champion on its third coach in a year is not a stable favorite. I want a real price before backing them.

Partizan and Crvena zvezda Sit in Opposite Groups

The draw put the two Belgrade clubs in different groups. The derby cannot happen before the second phase. Partizan are in Group B and keep Joan Peñarroya, whose contract was reportedly extended to 2028. Reported arrivals include Luca Vildoza, Alessandro Pajola, Kyle Allman, Lamar Stevens, and Kevarrius Hayes.

Crvena zvezda is in Group A under Ibon Navarro, who arrived from Unicaja. Reported arrivals include Chris Jones, David Kramer, Nick Weiler-Babb, Johnathan Motley, Patrick Baldwin Jr, and Vojin Medarević.

For group winner markets, the split matters. Neither has to get past the other to top a group.

The European Calendar Problem

Seven of the twenty clubs carry a European schedule this season. Crvena zvezda, Partizan, and Dubai all play in the EuroLeague, which runs 38 regular-season rounds. Budućnost VOLI, Cedevita Olimpija, U-BT Cluj-Napoca, and Bosna BH Telecom play the EuroCup, which starts on September 29.

Stack that against 18 ABA group rounds plus up to eight in the Top 8. The three EuroLeague clubs face the heaviest calendar in the region.

I have not found published analysis quantifying the effect on rotation. So I treat it as a question to watch, not as a settled edge. Track how the top clubs handle back-to-back weeks in October and November, and price the spring accordingly.

Three Angles I Watch Before Tip-Off

Where I Bet the ABA League in 2026

BetLabel: My Adriatic Coverage Check

BetLabel is my top-rated sportsbook for 2026. Start with its ABA group and outright boards before you take any price.

Planbet: The Second Opinion

Planbet sits second in my 2026 rankings. On a market this thinly priced, a second board is not optional, because early ABA numbers vary more than EuroLeague numbers do.

22bet: The Pre-Season Window

22bet completes my top three for 2026. Outright prices on a twenty-club league settle quickly after the first few rounds.

The season starts on Friday, September 25, 2026. The opening round is spread across September 25, 26 and 27.

  • Who won the ABA League title in 2026?

Dubai Basketball won their first title, in only their second season. They beat Partizan 3 to 1 in the final. Game four finished 83 to 81 in Belgrade on June 12, 2026. Mfiondu Kabengele was named Finals MVP.

  • How many clubs play in the ABA League in 2026/27?

Twenty clubs compete this season, up from eighteen last season. They are split into two groups of ten.

Slovan Bratislava debut and Cibona return, both on wild cards confirmed on June 18, 2026. Široki came up as ABA 2 champion. Split went down after finishing last.
